Commercial
I enjoy CAD modeling a lot, and have a great foundation due to TinkerCAD by Autodesk. But in the second half of high school, I wanted to grow out of it into something with more professional features. I looked through Autodesk's options and Fusion seemed like the obvious choice, but being the humble homeschooler I was, I struggled to get an academic license. All the programs they offered were so expensive, so I went on a search for a free option. Lots of things came up, and my interest in open-source was just starting. The software called Blender came to my attention, and version 2.7 had just dropped with its clean, new interface. I followed the official video tutorial and fell in love. I installed a plugin for 3D modeling, but my focus shifted to animation. After stumbling through some tutorials, I started recreating an animated Kroger commercial I liked a lot. It is shown below.
I worked with vehemence to animate the commercial. It was so exciting and I had no experience with so many things, but as I needed to know I learned the correct way of doing things. After what I now know was a ridiculous amount of work and time, I rendered this quick scene to show my cousins right before we left on a trip, shown above. In Junior year of high school, I was taking a class called "Digital Savvy". Part of it was learning HTML basics. As with all fun things, I went way above and beyond with the thrill of realizing something I thought would be difficult was actually incredibly simple! I made myself a website to show off my little animation clips. I also wanted to put something from my big Kroger spoof up, so I went back to work on it and got the following animation, showing significantly more progress with modeling, material design, and especially rigging.
I didn't get back into it for a bit, but once I did everything moved fast. One of those big ambitious projects that often never see the light of finish work was actually done. Many hours of work for this double-length parody of Kroger's "Driver Duets", titled "Croger: Old is Fresher Than New":
I would not say I moved far past that in skill, and it was my best finished animation by a long shot. I think I could do better now, but work took up my time shortly after finishing Croger, and after that it was college. Hopefully I'll have some time to re-enter this hobby again, or work with these skills. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
