Broody Hen
I wrote this game to contain multiple scenes that out can walk through in 2D, both as a platformer and in traversal style. The movement is complex logic with all the features you would expect from a video game including arrow keys, jump with space, and attack/interact with the Z key. Throughout the game you will hear ambient sound that I recorded with my own chickens based on where you go.
Upon starting, you are asked to name your character. The name you provide will be used in dialogs to improve the immersive feeling of environments. You are then free to roam around (slowly), but might struggle to know what to do. If you walk up to the coop, you'll be able to enter and talk to Bobody, my hen. She will explain that you probably came to the coop to lay an egg, but first you'll need to eat and drink lots, and complete other tasks that she only hints toward.
If you try to leave the main area, you will be told to eat and/or drink more, which you can do at the feeder and waterer. Once you have enough food and water, indicated in the top left corner of the screen, you can "freerange" out of the fence.
Once you freerange, you will be out with the other hens, the ISAs who are looking for foliage, important nutrition for laying eggs. Plants will be generated randomly in this area each time you enter, and you can interact with these plants to eat them and fill your crop, another requirement of laying an egg, the final goal of the game.
The fourth and last requirement is to spend time in the sun. This takes the form of a boss battle with our rooster. This area is entered at the top left of freeranging, and the rooster will go through 3 unique attack patterns based on the stage and location you are in currently. If he wins, you will be reduced in crop and food numbers, and if you win you are ready to lay an egg.
After completing these tasks daily for our little hen, you can return to the coop and lay an egg next to Bobody, and receive a short egg laying animation before a winning screen is displayed.
